Getting to know each other ....

This week we are getting to know each other, and share things about ourselves.

We have been doing a MATHS activity called Figure it Out!  We identified number facts about ourselves, such as our shoe size, birth month, the number of letters in our name etc, and came up with different equations that others would have to solve in order to find out about us.

We really tried to make our problems tricky, so that people in the classroom have to really use their maths knowledge to solve them.

Our problems used addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and even square roots.  Some problems had more than one of these.

We are also being creative, doing ART about ourselves.  We thought carefully about cold and hot colours, and different patterns, shapes and designs when creating our portraits.

They look great! We are proud of our efforts.

To finish the day we completed our cup challenge.
This is what we had to do.

Cup challenge:
We had 6 cups, 1 rubber band with 4 strings attached.

Each person had to hold on to one piece of the string and working together they had to manipulate the rubber band to grasp and move the cups.

To start they had to make this structure.

Then as a team they needed to move the cups from this structure to make a pyramid with two cups on the bottom and one on the top.  Experts had to make a pyramid with three cups on the bottom, then 2 cups and one on the top.

The team work was amazing and all teams gave 100% effort, and gave it a go! Congratulations orange team for winning.

We are looking forward to completing the challenge next week, but next time we will be using water. This should be fun.

What a great start to the term we have had!
